OGA 20
Our lovely Dutch/Belgian chapter of the Old Gaffers Association turned 20 years old and that produced a large two-week event wich included also an excitingly large number of Britisch visiting yachts. After some very serious rain the entire event enjoyed perfect weather.
Lona did well in the two days of racing but finished second overall, one minute behind the impressive Transcur, and we blame it on the fact that we could not raise our topsail because of some small issue in the top of the mast.
Most of the trip was essentially a gentle cruise through the Dutch canals with their bridges and locks and great old towns where our group was welcomed.
From Durgerdam I returned to Ijmuiden and then over the sea, over four days, mostly against a strong current and the whole time right against strong winds precisely on the nose. The engine turned a good portion of the time because I had an unexpected meeting in Blankenberge to respect (see separate post).
