Lona was designed in 1906 by J. Pain Clark, a lawyer, a keen sailor and one of the leading amateur yacht designers of early last century. Clark has 15 designs to his name, several of which are still sailing.

She sailed under different rig types, in England, Ireland and Scotland.

Her last long stretch of 30 years, Lona sailed out of her birth place Burnham-on-Crouch, where she successfully participated in the club races.
