A heavy storm
At the end of the 2023 sailing season, our return trip to get the boat hauled out for winter included a detour for a few days of end-of-season sailing, but that got hindered by a serious storm. All traffic on the Schelde river got even suspended. I saw things coming and went across the Schelde to the sheltered waters of the Veerse Meer and then Oosterschelde, and finally got into the Yerseke marina. With the nose of the boat in the wind, and hidden deep in the harbour behind a large ketch, I waited three days with the wind gusting up to 57 knots! The waiting was cosy - the roof under a tarp - but tiring with the noise and vibrations of the mast. The third day things calmed down and I proceeded very early in the morning to Walsoorden for the crane.
